Summer is Calling: A Sneak Peek at Our Upcoming Southern Summer Menu

We understand that you may have been waiting all winter for the first real signs of patio season to arrive. We’ve been waiting right there with you! Here at Anita & Joe's, the moment the sun starts staying out a little longer, our kitchen starts buzzing with a different kind of energy. We’re so excited to finally give you a little sneak peek into what we’ve been dreaming up for our new Southern Summer Menu, which officially drops next month.

We love to take the deep, comforting roots of Southern cooking and marry them with the incredible, fresh bounty that the Pacific Northwest provides during these warmer months. It’s a match made in culinary heaven, and we can’t wait to share the results with you. Whether you’re planning a backyard graduation party, a sunny wedding, or just a long-overdue corporate picnic, this menu is designed to make your event feel like a warm hug under a bright PNW sky.

The Heart of the Menu: Where the South Meets the Sound

When we sit down to design a new menu, we always start with the ingredients. We are lucky to live in a place where summer brings some of the best produce in the world. From the snap of local green beans to the incredible sweetness of berries from the valley, we want to highlight every bit of it. But, because we have Southern soul in our DNA, we don't just let those ingredients sit there, we give them a little "Anita & Joe's" magic.

We understand that you want food that feels light enough for a 75-degree day but satisfying enough to keep the party going into the evening. That’s why we’re focusing on "vibrant comfort." We’re taking those classic Southern techniques, smoking, slow-braising, and pickling, and applying them to the freshest PNW catch and harvest.

If you’ve enjoyed our Southern Cabbage 101 in the past, you know how much we love transforming a simple vegetable into something extraordinary. This summer, expect that same level of care with heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, and stone fruits.

A Little Teaser: What’s Cooking?

While we aren’t ready to reveal the full list just yet (we love a good surprise!), we couldn't resist sharing a few highlights. We’ve been testing these recipes for weeks, and our kitchen has never smelled better.

The Starters: Fresh and Zesty We’re moving away from the heavy winter stews and leaning into brightness. Think chilled seafood options that celebrate our local waters with a kick of Southern spice. We’ve been playing around with a "Lowcountry Ceviche" that uses local whitefish and a citrus-habanero base that will absolutely wake up your palate.

The Mains: Smoke and Soul It wouldn't be an Anita & Joe's summer without some smoke. We’re keeping our signature slow-cooked techniques, but we’re introducing lighter proteins and brighter glazes. Imagine a peach-bourbon glazed grilled chicken that uses fruit picked right here in the region. We’re also bringing a new twist to our seafood offerings, after the success of our Pacific Northwest Oysters with a Southern Twist, we’re expanding our shellfish menu to include some incredible summer boils.

The Sides: Garden to Table This is where the PNW really shines. We’re working on a charred corn salad with a creamy lime and cotija dressing that has just a hint of smoky bacon. And yes, for those who love the classics, there will be a summer version of our famous biscuits, perhaps paired with a savory local berry compote.

We Make Planning Easy (And Delicious)

We understand that planning a summer event can sometimes feel like a second job. Between coordinating schedules and worrying about the weather, the last thing you should have to stress about is the food. That’s why we are happy to work with you every step of the way.

We love to take the guesswork out of catering. When you book with us, we don't just drop off food; we partner with you to create an experience. Whether you need a personal chef service for an intimate dinner or full-service catering for a hundred guests, we meet you where you are at.

One of the biggest pain points we hear from our clients is the fear of hidden charges or complicated menus. We believe in total transparency. Our goal is to reduce your anxiety so you can actually enjoy your own party! We want you to be the one with a cold drink in your hand, laughing with your friends, while we handle the transitions, the service, and the cleanup.

Inclusive Flavors for Every Guest

We know that summer gatherings often include a wide variety of dietary needs. We are passionate about the fact that "Southern" doesn't have to mean "meat-heavy" or "gluten-filled." We’ve spent a lot of time perfecting our vegan and gluten-free Southern options so that every single guest at your table feels seen and fed.

Our summer menu will feature several plant-based options that don't feel like an afterthought. From grilled watermelon "steaks" with balsamic and mint to a vegan version of our creamy grits made with coconut milk and roasted peppers, we’re making sure the soul of the South is accessible to everyone.

Why Atmosphere Matters

There’s something about a Southern-inspired meal that naturally encourages people to slow down and talk to one another. Maybe it’s the shared plates, or maybe it’s the history behind the recipes, but it creates a specific kind of warmth. We’re bringing that "Southern Hospitality" to every PNW backyard this year.

We don't just focus on the plate; we focus on the vibe. We’re happy to offer advice on how to set up your outdoor space to maximize the flow of the party. We believe that great food tastes even better when the atmosphere is just right. From the music to the table settings, we’re here to help you build the event of your dreams!

The Sweetest Finish

You didn't think we'd forget dessert, did you? Summer in the Northwest is synonymous with berries, and we are putting them front and center. We’re moving away from the heavy cakes of winter and leaning into cobblers, crisps, and puddings.

We've been experimenting with a lemon-lavender pound cake that uses local honey and is served with a dollop of bourbon-infused whipped cream. It’s light, it’s floral, and it’s exactly what you want to be eating as the sun goes down and the fire pit gets lit. If you’re a fan of our previous dessert offerings, like our National Cherry Pie Day creations, you are going to love what we have in store for July and August.

Mark Your Calendars!

The full menu reveal is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to see your reactions. We’ll be updating our booking services page very soon so you can start locking in your dates for the summer.

We love being a part of your celebrations. Seeing families come together over a plate of food that we prepared with love is the reason we do what we do. We don't just see ourselves as a catering company; we see ourselves as your partner in creating memories that last long after the summer sun has set.

Stay tuned to our blog for the official launch date and the full menu listing. We’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes photos and maybe even a recipe or two that you can try at home while you wait for your big event.

We’re ready for summer: are you? Let’s make this the most delicious one yet!
