The Ultimate Guide to Booking a Private Chef Event: Everything You Need for an Intimate Southern Supper

We understand that you may have a vision for a perfect evening: a warm house, a table full of your favorite people, and food that tastes like a hug. But we also know that the reality of hosting can be a little overwhelming. Between the grocery store lines, the prep work, and the mountain of dishes waiting for you at the end, it’s hard to actually enjoy the company you invited over.

That is exactly why we created Anita & Joe's. We believe that hosting should be about making memories, not managing a kitchen timer. We love to take the stress off your plate by bringing our professional personal chef service directly to your home. Whether you are celebrating a milestone or just want a quiet Saturday night with good soul food, we are happy to help you create an experience that feels like home.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about booking a private chef event that your guests will be talking about for years.

Why Choose a Private Chef Event?

We’re often asked what makes a dinner party chef different from a traditional catering service. While we love a big party, an intimate private chef experience is special because it is entirely focused on you.

When you book with us, we’re not just dropping off food and leaving. We’re creating a customized culinary journey in your own kitchen. This allows for:

  • Total Customization: We work with you to build a menu that fits your specific cravings.

  • A Stress-Free Kitchen: We handle the shopping, the cooking, and: best of all: the cleanup.

  • Interactive Dining: We love to share the "why" behind our recipes and the history of our Southern roots while we cook.

We want to meet you where you are at. Whether you have a tiny apartment kitchen or a large open-concept home, we’re happy to make the magic happen!

Planning Your Southern-Inspired Menu

The heart of every event is, of course, the food. As a Southern cuisine personal chef, Chef Billy brings over 15 years of experience and a lifetime of family tradition to the table. We specialize in those authentic deep-south flavors that are hard to find in the Pacific Northwest.

We understand that you might have guests with different needs, and we don't want anyone to feel left out. We love to adapt our traditional recipes: like our Chicken and Sausage Gumbo: to accommodate dietary restrictions without losing that soulful flavor.

When we start planning your menu, we’ll think about:

  • The Vibe: Do you want a "Sunday Supper" style with family-sized platters, or a more formal plated experience?

  • Seasonal Ingredients: We love to blend local PNW produce with Southern techniques.

  • The Signature "Anita & Joe" Touch: We often incorporate recipes passed down from Anita and Joseph Malone, ensuring every bite has a bit of history in it.

What to Expect on the Night of Your Event

We know that inviting someone into your kitchen can feel a little personal, so we want to be transparent about how it all works. We’re here to be your partners in hosting!

1. Arrival and Prep: We typically arrive about 1.5 to 2 hours before your first course is scheduled to be served. This gives us time to get settled in your kitchen and start those slow-cooked flavors. 2. The Service: We can be as interactive or as "behind the scenes" as you’d like. We love to introduce each dish and share stories about the ingredients, but if you’re deep in conversation with your friends, we’re happy to let the food do the talking. 3. The Clean-Up: This is our favorite part to tell people about: we leave your kitchen exactly how we found it (and sometimes even a little cleaner!). We want you to be able to move from the dinner table to the couch without a single thought about the dishes.

If you have more questions about the logistics, we’ve put together a handy Catering FAQ to help clear up any guesswork.

Honoring Tradition Through Every Plate

Anita and Joseph Malone were the inspiration for everything we do. They taught us that food isn't just fuel; it’s a way to show love and build community. When you book a private chef event with us, you’re not just getting a meal: you’re getting a piece of that legacy.

Chef Billy takes those foundational lessons and elevates them with his professional training. It’s a mix of "old school" soul and "new school" technique. We believe this balance is what makes our food stand out. We don’t take shortcuts, and we don’t use "mystery" ingredients. We just use genuine care and traditional techniques.

Preparing Your Home for the Chef

Don't worry: you don't need a professional-grade kitchen to host a spectacular event. We are very comfortable working in residential spaces. To help us give you the best experience, we just suggest a few simple things:

  • Clear the Counters: Having a little extra workspace helps us move faster.

  • Fridge Space: We usually bring our own ingredients, but clearing a small shelf for us is always helpful.

  • Set the Mood: While we handle the food, we encourage you to focus on the music and lighting. We’re happy to give suggestions on what music pairs best with a Southern feast!

We want to reduce any anxiety you might have about costs, too. We’re committed to being upfront about our pricing so there are no surprises at the end of the night. You can check out our starting prices here to get an idea of what fits your budget.

Let’s Create the Event of Your Dreams!

We are so excited to help you host a culinary experience that feels authentic and soulful. Whether it's a birthday, an anniversary, or just a "just because" dinner, we are ready to bring the flavors of the deep South to your PNW home.

If you're ready to start planning, we'd love to hear from you! You can book online or reach out to us to start a conversation about your menu. Let's make your next dinner party one for the history books!
