A Valentine to Our Heart: Why Kayla is the Soul of Anita & Joe's

Every great meal has a secret ingredient. Sometimes it's a pinch of something unexpected, sometimes it's a technique passed down through generations. But for Anita & Joe's? Our secret ingredient has always been love. And nobody embodies that love more than Kayla Rojas.

This Valentine's Day, we're doing something a little different. Instead of talking about romantic dinners or heart-shaped desserts, we're celebrating the actual heart of our business, the person who makes everything we do possible.

The Vision Behind Every Plate

When we talk about honoring the legacy of Anita and Joseph Malone in the Pacific Northwest, we're talking about more than just recipes and traditions. We're talking about a commitment to bringing people together through food, creating moments that matter, and serving every dish with genuine care.

That vision? It wouldn't exist without Kayla.

As our Event Coordinator and Co-Owner, Kayla doesn't just manage schedules and coordinate logistics (though she does that brilliantly). She's the one who sees the bigger picture. She understands that when someone reaches out to us for catering, they're not just ordering food, they're trusting us with their memories. Whether it's a family reunion, a wedding celebration, or an intimate dinner party, Kayla gets it. She knows what's at stake, and she treats every single event with the care it deserves.

The Love That Goes Into Every Detail

Here's what most people don't see: the early morning texts checking in on prep work, the late-night conversations about how to make a client's dream event come to life, the countless hours spent refining processes to make sure we're delivering not just good food, but an exceptional experience.

Kayla brings love to the details that others might overlook. She's the one who remembers that a client mentioned their grandmother loved peach cobbler, so maybe we should offer that as a dessert option. She's the one who notices when someone seems stressed about planning and reaches out with reassurance and solutions. She's the one who makes sure that the Southern hospitality we're known for isn't just a tagline, it's a lived reality in every interaction.

We're in the food business, sure. But really, we're in the people business. And Kayla has this incredible gift for making people feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. That's not something you can teach or fake. It's authentic, and it radiates through everything we do.

Building Dreams in the Pacific Northwest

When you take Southern soul food traditions and transplant them to the Pacific Northwest, there's a unique challenge. You're introducing flavors and techniques that might be unfamiliar to some folks. You're working with different ingredients and seasonal availability. You're bridging two distinct culinary cultures.

Kayla understood this from day one. She saw the opportunity to create something special, not by compromising on authenticity, but by finding creative ways to honor Southern traditions while embracing what makes the PNW incredible. Her support and partnership with Executive Chef Billy Eldridge has allowed us to experiment, innovate, and grow in ways we never imagined.

She's been the champion of our vision when things got tough. She's been the voice of reason when we needed perspective. And she's been the unwavering believer that yes, Seattle absolutely needs authentic Southern comfort food made with love.

The Daily Magic Nobody Sees

Let's get real for a second. Running a catering business is hard work. There are supply chain challenges, staffing puzzles, equipment that breaks at the worst possible moment, and clients who (understandably!) have high expectations. Behind every beautiful spread and every five-star review, there's a mountain of work that happens behind the scenes.

Kayla handles that mountain with grace, determination, and an incredible attention to detail. She's the one coordinating with vendors to make sure we get the best ingredients. She's the one problem-solving when something unexpected comes up. She's the one making sure our team has what they need to succeed.

But here's the thing: she does it all while keeping the human element front and center. We've never lost sight of why we do this because Kayla won't let us. She reminds us constantly that we're not just feeding people; we're creating experiences, building community, and carrying forward a legacy that matters.

Honoring a Legacy Through Partnership

Anita and Joseph Malone's influence on Southern cuisine and hospitality runs deep. Their approach to food: generous portions, bold flavors, and an open-door philosophy: is what inspired this entire venture. But keeping a legacy alive in a new place, with new challenges, requires more than just good intentions. It requires vision, commitment, and someone who genuinely believes in the mission.

That's Kayla.

She's taken the spirit of what the Malones represented and helped us translate it for a whole new audience. She's found ways to stay true to traditional techniques while adapting to modern dietary preferences and event styles. She's built relationships with local farms and suppliers who share our values. She's created systems that allow us to scale without losing the personal touch that makes us special.

Every time someone tells us that our food reminded them of their grandmother's kitchen, or that our catering made their event unforgettable, we know that Kayla's fingerprints are all over that success.

The Secret Ingredient is Always Love

We've catered hundreds of events at this point. We've made countless pans of mac and cheese, fried thousands of pieces of chicken, and baked more pies than we can count. But you know what makes the difference between a meal that's just good and one that people remember?

Love.

Not in some abstract, marketing-speak way. We mean real, tangible care that goes into every decision, every interaction, every plate. And Kayla brings that love to work with her every single day.

She loves the clients who trust us with their special moments. She loves the team members who work so hard to execute our vision. She loves the food traditions we're preserving and sharing. She loves this business we've built together, and it shows.

That love is contagious. It inspires our kitchen team to take extra care with presentation. It motivates our service staff to go above and beyond. It creates an atmosphere where everyone: from our vendors to our clients: feels valued and appreciated.

What Valentine's Day Really Means

Valentine's Day tends to focus on romantic love, and that's beautiful. But love comes in so many forms. There's the love between partners, sure. But there's also the love of craft, the love of community, the love of purpose.

Kayla embodies all of those things. Her partnership in this business is one of the most meaningful relationships we have. It's built on mutual respect, shared values, and a genuine desire to create something special together.

So this Valentine's Day, we're celebrating that. We're acknowledging that Anita & Joe's wouldn't be what it is without Kayla's vision, her dedication, her problem-solving skills, her emotional intelligence, and yes: her love.

Thank You, Kayla

To Kayla: Thank you for believing in this dream. Thank you for the countless hours, the creative solutions, the steady support, and the unwavering commitment to excellence. Thank you for caring about our clients the way you do. Thank you for building something beautiful alongside us.

Thank you for being the soul of Anita & Joe's.

We wouldn't be here without you. The business wouldn't be what it is without your vision and heart. The Malone legacy wouldn't be flourishing in the Pacific Northwest without your dedication to honoring it properly.

You are our secret ingredient, Kayla. And we're so grateful to have you.

We love you, Happy Valentines Day.
