Soulful & Proud: Celebrating Pride Month with Southern Comfort in the PNW

We understand that you might be looking for more than just a meal this June; you’re looking for a community. Pride Month is a time of vibrant celebration, reflection, and, most importantly, radical inclusion. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are so lucky to have such a beautiful, diverse community that shines brightest when we all come together.

At Anita & Joe's, we believe that food is the ultimate bridge. We’ve always seen our kitchen as a place where the deep roots of Southern tradition meet the inclusive spirit of the West Coast. We love to share our heritage because, at its core, Southern hospitality has always been about one simple thing: making sure there is enough room at the table for absolutely everyone.

Hospitality Means No Exceptions

We understand that sometimes, "hospitality" can feel like an exclusive club, but we're happy to tell you that’s not how we do things. When we talk about Southern hospitality, we’re talking about the kind of welcome that Anita and Joseph Malone: the inspirations behind our name: showed to every neighbor who walked through their door. It didn’t matter who you were or who you loved; if you were hungry, you were family.

We’re passionate about carrying that legacy forward into our work today. Whether we’re providing personal chef services for a quiet family dinner or catering a massive bash, our goal is to make every guest feel seen and celebrated. We believe that Pride isn't just a month on the calendar; it’s a commitment to the idea that everyone deserves a seat, a plate, and a warm smile.

Love is "Low and Slow"

In our kitchen, we don't rush things. We’re big believers in the "low and slow" method. If you’ve ever tasted our smoked brisket or our fall-off-the-bone ribs, you know exactly what we’re talking about. Good food takes time, patience, and a whole lot of heart.

We like to think of this as a bit of a metaphor for the way we support the LGBTQ+ community. True allyship isn’t something you just "whip up" for a single event; it’s something you nurture and cook over a long period. It’s about the consistent warmth and the steady support that builds something rich and meaningful over time.

We put that same "low and slow" care into every dish we prepare for you. We don't take shortcuts with our recipes, and we certainly don't take shortcuts with our community. We’re here for the long haul, simmering with love and ready to serve up comfort whenever it’s needed!

Let’s Paint the PNW Rainbow

The Pacific Northwest knows how to do Pride right, and we are so excited to see the streets filled with color this year. We love to see our neighbors coming together to support one another, and we’re happy to highlight a few local events where you can catch the spirit:

  • Seattle Pride in the Park (June 6): This is a wonderful, all-ages event at Volunteer Park. It’s the perfect place to kick off the month with music, food, and plenty of sun. We understand that navigating crowds can be stressful, so we recommend heading there early to find a cozy spot on the grass!

  • Seattle Pride Parade (June 28): Mark your calendars for Washington’s largest parade! Seeing 4th Avenue transform into a sea of joy is an experience you don't want to miss. It’s a day for celebration, visibility, and high energy.

  • Tacoma Pride (July 11): The celebration doesn't stop in June! We’re giving a huge shout-out to our friends in Tacoma. This community gathering is always full of soul and local pride, and we love to see the momentum continue into July.

We Love to Cater Your Celebration

We understand that planning a Pride event: whether it’s a small gathering of friends or a large community block party: can feel like a lot of work. We’re happy to take that weight off your shoulders! Our team is ready to work with you to create a catering menu that reflects your unique style and needs.

Think about it: while you’re out there marching or dancing, we can be in the kitchen (or at your venue) making sure the food is perfect. We offer a variety of services to meet you where you're at:

  • Intimate Dinner Experiences: Perfect for a quiet night with chosen family after a long day of festivities.

  • Family Meal Planning: We can help you keep the fridge stocked with soulful comfort food so you can focus on your community.

  • Full Event Catering: From appetizers to desserts, we’ll handle the whole spread for your Pride party!

No Guesswork, Just Great Food

We know that one of the biggest pain points when hiring a caterer is the "guesswork." You worry about hidden charges, shifting timelines, or whether the food will actually taste like it’s made with love. We want to reduce that anxiety right now.

At Anita & Joe's, we’re committed to complete transparency. We’re happy to provide clear starting prices and answer every single question in our Catering FAQ. We want to be your partner in this process, not just a service provider.

We explain the "why" behind what we do: why we use certain traditional techniques and why we source our ingredients carefully: because we want you to feel confident in the meal you’re serving. When you work with us, you’re getting over 15 years of culinary expertise and a passion that has been passed down through generations.

Your Pride, Your Way

Whether you’re craving our signature fried green tomatoes, a pile of smoked chicken sandwiches with spicy pikliz, or a refreshing grilled okra succotash, we’re ready to make it happen. We love to see the joy that a good meal brings to a gathering, especially one as important as Pride.

We want to help you create the event of your dreams. Imagine a table filled with golden-brown chicken, savory sides, and the kind of soul food that makes you feel right at home. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a culinary experience that honors who you are.

Let’s Celebrate Together!

We are so proud to be a part of the Pacific Northwest community, and we are even prouder to stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, and family. We’re happy to help you celebrate in whatever way feels best to you.

If you’re ready to start planning your Pride gathering, we’d love to hear from you! Let’s collaborate and make this year’s celebration the most flavorful and soulful one yet. Reach out to us today to book your service and let’s get cooking!

Happy Pride, everyone! Let's keep the love low, slow, and plentiful!
